Protecting Your Children From Car Seat Injuries Caused An Accident

Conyers Chiropractic Care for Car Seat Injuries | AICA ConyersToday, our Conyers car accident injury Chiropractors are discussing the subject of car seat injuries and the importance of following through with a certified inspection.

A new study out of Harvard Medical School discovered that booster-aged seat kids are twice as likely to sustain a critical injury in an auto accident compared to younger kids, mostly because their seats are installed incorrectly.

The study took a unique look at the age of kids whose legal guardians met with a certified car seat inspector to ensure their rear-facing, car seat or booster seat was installed correctly.

According to the data:

  • Just 11 percent of all inspections were for booster seats, which are mostly created for kids who are between the ages of four and seven.
  • More than 50 percent of the inspections were for rear-facing seats.

Although many parents believe they are equipped with the resources to properly install a car seat by the time their child needs to switch to a booster seat, this is usually not the case.

Booster seats seem less complex and sophisticated than setting up an infant seat, which may lead parents and others to be less concerned about using them inappropriately.

Harvard Medical School’s study shows that it may be helpful for certified child passenger safety technicians to focus more on offering assistance and guidance on the appropriate use of booster seats.

Booster Seat Injuries

Booster seats have been proven to mitigate the risk of critical injury by up to 50 percent in children who are between the age of four and eight compared to a seat belt alone.

However, this completely changes when the booster seat isn’t installed correctly.

A survey by Safe Kids Worldwide found that seven out of ten parents do not understand that the average child doesn’t reach the ideal seat belt height until they grow to 4′ 9.”

Even more concerning is that nine out of ten parents switch their child out of a booster seat to a seat belt before the appropriate time.
